Ready At Dawn's exclusive for the PlayStation 4 is scheduled to hit stores in early 2015, but before that, here's a look at the weapons that will be helping the humans battle Half-breeds in The Order: 1886.

Ru Weerasuriya, creative director and CEO for Ready At Dawn, posted on PlayStation.Blog a new behind-the-scenes video detailing the weapons that will be seen on The Order: 1886. The Half-breeds may be fewer in number but they are definitely growing in strength so the humans needed to step up to the challenge, calling upon Nikola Tesla to create weapons for The Order.

The Order has always had a wide range of weapons available to them but bringing Tesla into the picture allowed for the creation of weapons that both reflected the technologies of the time and pushed the boundaries of what could be considered possible. And since, in the game, the Industrial Revolution came about as an outcome of the war, majority of the inventions within The Order were tools aimed at helping humans in their fight against Half-breeds.

"Guns such as the Carbine, the Coach Gun or the Maschinenpistole are common occurrence in the game and represent the technology of the era. While others based on electricity such as the Arc Gun, or based on alternate ammunition such as the Aluminum Iron Oxide of the Thermite Rifle, provide a way for us to use real technologies and materials of the times, while building weapons that did not exist," wrote Weerasuriya in the blog post.

Joe Studzinski, head concept artist for The Order: 1886, also adds that designing the combo rifle, the most basic of weapons used by The Order, required extensive research. This meant the team had to look at all rifles issued from the Industrial Revolution's start until the Second World War to create what is essentially an AK-47 for the Victorian Era, while adding an alternate mode that shoots out concussive blasts.

But whether invented or real, all weapons were designed following specific guidelines on craftsmanship, material, and assembly. These weapons had to feel like they belonged in a setting late in the century so it was important to ground them. This resulted in realistic but futuristic weapons that diversified combat while offering a fun element for players. In fact, some of the weapons in the game feel just as dangerous for users as they are for their targets. No time for stringent testing, after all, when the Half-breeds are coming.
