When it was revealed that Star Wars Battlefront wouldn't feature space battles, a key part of the Star Wars franchise, more than a few fans were upset. After all, Star Wars Battlefront II for the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 had space dogfights, so why would the feature be excluded from a modern reboot of the franchise?

Star Wars Battlefront would go on to be a big seller for EA regardless, but it still doesn't change the fact that many players still dream of taking to the stars to do battle against the Empire. That has left fans to seek more creative methods for fulfilling their Star Wars battle fantasies.

Enter Halo 5's Forge mode. The impressive creation suite gives players the tools to craft all kinds of crazy multiplayer maps and game modes in Microsoft's premier shooter for Xbox One, and one heroic gamer by the name of CaptainDireWolf has crafted the perfect escape for those who are still bummed about Star Wars Battlefront's lack of space battles.

It's called Starfighter Combat, and it's almost exactly what it sounds like. One team takes to space in X-Wing starfighters, while the other team opposes them in Tie Fighters. The battle takes place in an asteroid field, complete with recreations of iconic Star Wars ships like the Star Destroyer. It's a straight-forward battle to the death, as X-Wing and Tie Fighters blast each other to bits.

Wondering how CaptainDireWolf created pilotable X-Wings and Tie Fighters in Halo 5? He cleverly combined various geometric objects with Halo 5's flying Banshee to create lookalike versions of the Star Wars spaceships.

To call it "most impressive" would be an understatement. Halo 5's Forge mode continues to be one of the most robust creation tools available in a game to date. It's no surprise developer 343 Industries is looking to open up the possibilities of Forge to an even wider audience in the coming months by making the creation tool available for Windows 10 users for free. If that decision results in even more players stretching their creative muscles to create game types like the one detailed above, Forge has a bright future ahead.
