Verizon Wireless announced on Sept. 25 that the Moto X and Moto Maker will be available starting Sept. 26 online and in stores.

The next generation Moto X builds upon the best things about Motorola's previous flagship, but most of all features customization capabilities beyond the usual options offered to users. Thanks to Moto Maker, users can make their Moto Xs truly theirs by applying their own sense of style.

This means more than just choosing a background, organizing apps whichever way they like, and setting a ringtone. Users can also create a phone that fits their liking exactly. Using genuine leather and wood options, Moto Maker opens up thousands of combinations for users to choose from.

Aside from outside appearances, the new Moto X also makes it possible to customize how users connect with their phones by assigning names and actually getting the phones to respond to these names.

So, say, a user decides to call their Moto X "Nancy." They can wake up their phone by saying "Wake up, Nancy." They can actually use any kind of phrase they want, set it, and their Moto X will respond as needed. In addition to being woken up with voice commands, a Moto X can also be asked questions, told to read messages, post on social media, search on Google, and more.

With Moto Actions too, the Moto X's display can be woken up just by reaching for the phone so it shows notifications and the time. Wave a hand over the display and an alarm can be silenced and a phone call dismissed.

The 16GB XLTE-ready black Moto X will be available on a new two-year contract for $99.99. A white Moto X will also be offered for a limited time only for the same price, $99.99, on a new two-year activation. For fully customizable 16GB and 32GB models, these units will be available through Moto Maker for $99.99 and $149.99, respectively, on new two-year contracts.

Eligible customers may also take advantage of Verizon Edge. For a limited time as well, customers choosing to upgrade or activate new smartphones on The MORE Everything plans with a minimum of 1GB of data will be getting an additional 1GB allocation every month for up to two years. The offer will remain valid as long as the associated smartphone stays active on The MORE Everything plan.

Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the Moto X features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 13MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, and a 2,300mAh battery.
