With the next Google Nexus smartphone set to be released within the next few months, many are continuing to wonder what the specs of it will be.

Over the past few weeks there have been a couple leaked images related to the Google Nexus 6 (code-named Shamu) or Google Nexus X.

Design

It's looking more and more like the next Nexus smartphone will actually be more of a phablet-sized device with a whopping 5.9-inch display. It's certainly possible, and heavily rumored, that Google will actually release two smartphones, one being a little smaller. However, a 5.9-inch device is much more documented.

In fact, a prototype of the device has even reportedly been spotted for the first time. The device spotted looks similar to the Moto X, with the round Motorola logo on the back.

Display

The upcoming device is expected to have a 2K quad-HD display, or a 2,560 x 1,440 display, which puts it head and shoulders above many competing devices in terms of display resolution.

By contrast, the new iPhone 6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S5 both have a display with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4, however, has the same resolution as the rumored Nexus 6/X.

Processor

The processor of the upcoming device is likely to be Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805, which is Qualcomm's flagship processor. This, again, puts the Nexus 6/X in competition with some of the most powerful smartphones on the market. Despite this, the Snapdragon 805 is not a 64-bit chip, which makes including it in one of the first devices with Android L's support for 64-bit processing a little odd. Hopefully the company will include a different chip instead so that users can fully experience the 64-bit processing that Android L can offer.

Storage and Memory

There are a number of rumors surrounding the storage capacity of the device, however the most prominent is that it will pffer 32 GB of storage. Variants offering 16 GB and 64 GB are also likely.

As far as memory on the device goes, the Nexus 6/X is heavily rumored to have 3 GB of RAM, which will be great for the power users among us. This again puts the device in flagship status.

Camera

The Nexus X is also rumored to come with a 13-MP rear-facing camera and a 2-MP front-facing camera. While the front-facing camera isn't anything too special, a 13-MP rear-facing camera is quite good, and certainly better on paper than certain idevices. Despite this, megapixels aren't the only thing that make up a good camera, so only time well tell if the device is actually good for photography.

Conclusions

If the rumored specs turn out to be true, the Nexus 6/X will certainly be a great device. While the large display size won't be for everyone, for those who are looking for a phablet-sized device, it is likely that there won't be too many better options, especially for the rumored price of $400.
