Users of the Surface Pro 3 tablet from Microsoft will welcome the news that the company is pushing out a firmware update for the tablet.

According to a report from the folks at MSPoweruser, the firmware update for Surface Pro 3 was released on Monday, Aug. 1.

However, even though it is not yet clear whether the latest firmware update resolves the SIMPLO battery issue, the publication still think it does.

"Microsoft has just released a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 3. The changelog for the latest firmware update isn't available just yet, but the update likely brings a fix for the battery issues that were reported recently," notes the publication.

Interestingly, this is the second firmware for the Surface Pro 3 in a span of two weeks — the last one was pushed out on July 21 to fix minor battery niggles.

Previously, several owners of Surface Pro 3 tablet — powered by the SIMPLO brand battery — have complained of excessive battery drain. It was first believed to be a hardware issue but the company later confirmed it was software oriented.

Microsoft acknowledged the problem and said that only a few users were affected. The company also added that it was of the opinion that the battery drain issue could be tackled via software update, negating a need for a replacement or recall of defective batteries.

"We are aware of some customers reporting a scenario with their Surface Pro 3 batteries in which the system is reporting lower battery capacity than expected. We've isolated this to a limited number of customers experiencing this issue. Based on our investigations we can confirm that it is not an issue with the battery cells, and we believe this is something that can be addressed via software," noted the company on July 26.

Therefore, a possibility exists that the current firmware update pushed out for the Surface Pro 3 could address the SIMPLO battery issue.

A changelog for the firmware was not available at the time of writing, but the firmware page showed the last listed update for the Surface Pro 3 as of July 21.

If you own a Surface Pro 3 tablet, which is powered by the SIMPLO brand battery, then check the update status on the device. Alternately, one can check the update history page for the Surface Pro 3.
