With the holiday season not far away, several OEMs are gearing up to launch a bevy of new tablets and smartphones to cash-in on the expected demand.

HTC too seems poised to take the wraps off its much-rumored Nexus 9 tablet in the coming weeks judging by the spate of rumors. Now, a Nexus tablet filing from HTC has popped up on FCC adding fuel to the speculations that the release of the device is not far away.

Previous rumors have suggested that HTC may unveil the Nexus 9 tablet at its Double Exposure event which is being held in New York on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The HTC-made Google Nexus 9 was listed as "0P82100" on the FCC and its application has been filed by HTC. Previous leaks have also referred to the impending tablet by the 0P82100 code.

The filing does not reveal too many specifications of the upcoming Nexus 9 tablet. However, an illustration in the FCC documentations hints that the tablet may sport a new aspect ratio like other Android tablets.

The FCC document also reveals that the tablet will come in 16 GB and 32 GB variants. The wireless capabilities the Nexus 9 will flaunt include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. The Nexus 9 may also boast a 4G LTE variant.

Rumors suggest that the Nexus 9 codenamed the "Flounder" or "Volantis," will have an 8.9-inch Quad HD screen with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The device will be powered by a NVIDIA K1 processor, which is clocked at 2.3GHz.

The Wi-Fi enabled tablet will offer up to 4GB of RAM and likely don an aluminum casing. The tablet may also sport an 8-megapixel primary camera. The Nexus 9 may also have the distinction of being the first device to come with Google's new Android L OS.

Users will likely have the option to purchase a keyboard case which is similar to the Smart Cover for iPad as suggested by previously leaked images of the same.

Since the Nexus 7 launched in 2013, Nexus fans have not had a new tablet and would be eagerly awaiting a refresh from Google. Whether the Nexus 9 launches at the Oct. 8 HTC press event or Oct. 16 as divulged by Paul O'Brien, MoDaCo founder, remains to be seen.
