After all the ups and downs of the season 1 of Overwatch, Blizzard is now paying attention to the game's future moving forward, and apparently, Mei, Mercy and Zenyatta are part of the slew of upcoming changes.

Right off the bat, Zenyatta is going to get nerfed, while Mei and Mercy are going to get buffed.

The news comes from a few Battle.net threads, with Overwatch Principal Designer Geoff Goodman replying to numerous posters.

Toning Down Zenyatta

First up is what the developers intend to do with the omnic robot monk.

"At this point anecdotal feedback, internal stats, and competitive feedback are all showing [Zenyatta is] actually a bit too strong at the moment," he says, noting that the changes could be related to his Discord Orb.

Powering Up Mercy

In the same thread, he also addressed Mercy's situation, but even after going through multiple changes during the last Public Test Realm iteration, it's still unclear what's going to happen to her. Nevertheless, he assures players that the team is working on doing something to power her up.

With that said, it's more or less certain that the change is going to be positive, but the current look of things doesn't warrant a new ability. However, if the possibility of that were in the cards, it would be "something that she could use more 'outside of combat' or something that is generally used much more rarely," Goodman writes.

Mei Getting Buffed

Last of all, Mei is going to get a slight buff. By "slight," it means that she's not exactly in need of major improvements here and there to become a viable choice in Competitive Play.

"While Mei currently doesn't see a ton of tournament or competitive play, I don't think she's super far off," the developer says.

According to Goodman, the team is considering making her ultimate ability Blizzard capable of going through shields such as Reinhardt's Barrier Field and increasing its area of effect.

That's it for now regarding what's to come in the following patches for Overwatch.

For the record, the first season of Competitive Play is scheduled to end in a few days' time on Aug. 17. Meanwhile, the second season is expected to start on Sept. 6, but nothing's set in stone just yet, as the date could change if Blizzard needs more time to iron the wrinkles out of the system.
