Overwatch is undoubtedly a great hit and an upcoming graphic novel and art book should wrap fans deeper into its universe.

The game has more than 10 million players worldwide, playing on PC, Xbox One and PS4 consoles. Gamers have pretty much figured things out by now when it comes to the 22 playable characters, including the recently added Ana Amari.

When it comes to the story, however, there are still some gaps that need to be filled. The game doesn't reveal too much regarding the origins of the organization or why agents need to reactivate it, for instance. Telling a story in multiplayer games is arguably more difficult than in single-player RPG games, but Blizzard found a solution.

After filling some of the blanks by releasing online comics and animated shorts, Blizzard is ready to take things to the next level through a partnership with Dark Horse Comics. The two will be launching an Overwatch graphic novel to paint a larger picture of the game's universe, adding depth to characters and flow to the story.

According to a new report from IGN, Dark Horse Comics will initially make Blizzard's Overwatch digital comics available through its own comics service, after which it will print a 100-page Overwatch graphic novel.

Both Blizzard and Dark Horse are keeping mum on the details, but we do know that the graphic novel will see the light of day in April 2017. Other details such as the title or the artists behind it remain unknown at this point, but the Overwatch graphic novel will tell the story of the original Overwatch strike team.

In addition to the graphic novel, the partnership between Blizzard and Dark Horse will also yield a hardcover art book called "The Art of Overwatch." This will arrive later than the graphics novel, however, as it's set to launch sometime during the summer next year.

It's worth pointing out here that an art book has already been available as part of the Overwatch collector's edition, but the upcoming one promises to offer previously unseen concept art and illustrations.

The Overwatch graphic novel and "The Art of Overwatch" should significantly expand the currently limited lore of the game and round up its overall story.

No additional details are available at this point, but we'll make sure to keep you posted as soon as we learn more. Are you excited about this upcoming Overwatch graphic novel and art book made in collaboration with Dark Horse?
