AMC has debuted two new trailers for The Walking Dead season five ahead of Sunday's premiere, and while they were at it they went ahead and renewed the show for a sixth season.

Both of the new trailers can be seen below. The first is titled "Together" and the second is "Will for Survival." Each trailer is set to the new U2 song "The Troubles" from the album Songs of Innocence. Don't hold that against the show, though.

The news that the show will be returning for another season shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody who even has a remote idea of the kind of success The Walking Dead has seen. The zombie drama is the number one show on television for the 18-49 demographic two years running, a feat that isn't easily accomplished.

To put in perspective just how popular The Walking Dead is, a live talk-show hosted by Chris Hardwick dedicated solely to talking about and discussing the latest episode of The Walking Dead is one of AMC's more popular shows. That's right: The Walking Dead is so popular that people will tune in just to watch other people talk about their favorite show.

While it isn't set in stone that this latest season of the show will continue to bring in record numbers, AMC seems confident in their chances.

"We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe," AMC President Charlie Collier says in a statement. "In advance of Sunday's season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There's plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort."

Showrunner Gimple and Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman will return alongside executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.

AMC is so confident in the success of The Walking Dead that the network recently ordered a pilot episode for a new Walking Dead "companion" series. Much like the TellTale The Walking Dead video games, the show will star an all-new cast of characters set in a different location but still in the same zombie ravaged world of Rick Grimes and the gang.

TVLine recently got their hands on a casting sheet for the show and gives us some solid descriptions of the characters the show will be following. The companion series is coming from Kirkman alongside Sons of Anarchy writer Dave Erickson.
