HP is showing the world that it's still capable of producing powerful gaming PCs, and to make a big splash in the scene, it's unveiling the Omen X Desktop.

Just like most high-end computers built for games nowadays, it sports an out-of-this-world design, and apparently, the manufacturer went for a cube-shaped desktop this time around.

More than just for aesthetic purposes, the shape makes use of the different chambers in a clever way, allowing hardware components to be distributed and placed separately for optimal cooling. On top of that, swapping hard drives in and out becomes a whole deal easier because of it.

Designed to support 4K gaming and VR, the entry-level model will house a 4 GHz Intel Core i7 Skylake processor, 8 GB worth of RAM, an AMD Radeon RX 480 video card with 4 GB of VRAM and a huge 1,300 W power supply. On the storage side of things, it'll pack in a 256 GB SSD and a 2 TB HDD.

There's no need to worry about USB ports too, as it's fitted with a total of 10 — two USB-C and eight 3.0.

Of course, that's not the kind of monster that one might expect from a high-end gaming PC that can handle anything under the sun. That's why there are options to push the envelope with a pair of AMD Radeon R9 Fury X cards or dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 cards and double the RAM to 16 GB.

The price will start off at $1,799, and needless to say, going for the more powerful components will up the total cost by a lot. Availability-wise, the Omen X Desktop is expected to go up on the company's official website on Aug. 17.

For those who doesn't quite find this up their alley, HP also has a little something for DIY PC builders, offering only the diamond case itself. As mentioned earlier, the form factor has a lot of benefits in store, particularly for cooling and making drives more accessible.

To get just those perks and an eye-catching case to boot, interested customers will have to fork over $600. That's still a little pricey for many people, though.

It's also worth mentioning that the computer maker began to step into the spotlight again back in May with the Omen line of gaming laptops and desktops.

Long story short, the Omen X Desktop is just the thing for gamers with a big budget to spend on a VR-ready desktop capable of 4K gaming.
