Konami took the stage at Gamescom 2016 and announced Metal Gear Survive, a stealth game centered on multiplayer play.

The gaming company showcased a trailer during the event, saying that the title will land on all major gaming platforms, namely PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC in 2017.

According to the video, the events in the game take place at the ending of Ground Zeroes, placing the new adventures after the Metal Gear Solid 5 prologue.

The plot line is fairly simple: players, alongside big pieces of the Motherbase, get sucked into random wormholes that transport them into a barren wasteland. Teams of up to four players have to join forces to cooperate and survive in the wild and harsh environment.

Fans of the Metal Gear series will be happy to know that the essential stealth mechanics will be a key element of the game, with covert operations being essential to get away from massive biological threats.

The game will pack some novel elements and new weaponry in the form of a bow and arrow.

"[Metal Gear Survive] pursues a fresh spirit of exploration in unique gameplay mechanics," Konami says.

The European President for Konami Digital Entertainment, Tomotada Tashiro, stated that his company is excited to deliver a new extension to the Metal Gear franchise. He adds that the multiplayer focused experience creates a spectacular co-op setting where gamers can practice the game's famous stealth elements.

A press release underlines the importance of cooperative gameplay, which is the only way players will survive the harsh terrain populated with deadly creatures.

Konami kept mum about other details pertaining to the game.

As far as we can tell from the video trailer, Survive has taken the best out of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, and mixed the strong points of both single player and competitive multiplayer into one new co-op centered experience.

It should be mentioned that this is the first game in the Metal Gear franchise produced without any involvement from its parent, Hideo Kojima. He left Konami last year prior to the release of The Phantom Pain and is currently supervising his own studio. Should you be curious on what Kojima will cook up next, know that he and his team are working on a new game dubbed Death Stranding.
