The HTC 10 will soon join the ranks of the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, as the Taiwan-based smartphone maker has revealed that the handset will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update in Q4 2016.

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, HTC announced via a post on Twitter that its unlocked HTC 10, along with the One M9 and the One A9, will benefit from the latest Google OS in the coming months.

While the unlocked variant of HTC 10 will be the first to receive Android 7.0 Nougat, the unlocked variants of the One M9 and One A9 will follow suit. Those who have the carrier bound models of either of the three smartphones need to wait longer.

HTC has not given an exact release date for the Android 7.0 Nougat, merely highlighting the Q4 2016 time window for the HTC 10. This means that the HTC 10 could receive the update anytime between October to December this year.

The carrier models of the HTC 10, One M9 and One A9 have to wait a tad more before they can get a taste of the Google's new, much-awaited OS on their handsets. This is because network operators usually test and approve the software updates prior to officially releasing them to subscribers. The update is also pushed out by carriers in phases and the arrival date varies from carrier to carrier.

The HTC announcement will be welcomed by users of the HTC 10, One M9 and One A9 as the company is holding true to its promise of updating the three smartphones to Android 7.0 Nougat as confirmed in June.

The distinction of being the first HTC devices to be powered by Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, however, will possibly belong to the HTC Sailfish and HTC Marlin, which are said to be from Google's 2016 Nexus lineup and to have been made by HTC.

The Android 7.0 Nougat software update is presently being pushed out by Google for its Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Google Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One).

The update brings with it a gamut of new features and improvements, such as an improved Doze Mode, Data Saver, Split Screen and more.
