If you thought flip phones were dead, think again. The Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 should launch soon as an entry-level clamshell Android smartphone and new images now show what it could look like.

The purported Galaxy Folder 2 has leaked on several occasions so far, surfaced on GFXBench, received Bluetooth certification and starred in various rumors, so its official debut already feels a bit overdue.

Nevertheless, leaks keep piling up and the latest one now offers a glimpse of what the handset could look like. The flip phone shown in these images sports a sleek design that seems to be metallic, at least partially.

In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 is expected to feature a modest 3.8-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, coupled with an Adreno 308 GPU and 2 GB of RAM.

Other specs include 16 GB of native storage space, expandable via microSD, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,000 mAh battery to keep the show going. The battery may not seem like much compared to what flagships pack, but it's more than enough to power that small display.

This upcoming clamshell smartphone would come as the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Folder, which launched last year in July. The new model should be more powerful and, if the latest leak turns out to be accurate, has a score of 23,434 on the AnTuTu benchmarking tool.

It remains to be seen just when the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 will finally make its official debut and in which markets it will launch, but it seems to come in a neat Gold avatar. Other color options might be available too, but the newly leaked images show only the Gold version.

When it comes to pricing, the Galaxy Folder 2 is expected to retail at roughly $250. Considering that it's expected to sport modest specifications suitable for the entry level, a $200-$250 price point seems fair enough.

With no official word from Samsung yet, however, it's all still in the rumor state at this point. Intensifying leaks could suggest an imminent release, but it's best to take rumors with a dose of skepticism until then. As always, we'll make sure to keep you in the loop as soon as more information becomes available.
