On Tuesday, December 3, also known as "Giving Tuesday," Google is offering an online Google+ "Hangout-a-thon" for people interested in making donations to their favorite charities. The Hangout-a-thon will become the first online telethon and will feature a number of well-known celebrities.

The Google+ Hangout is an instant messaging and video chat platform, which was launched in May this year. The Google+ Hangout replaces three previous messaging services and Google claims that it is designed to be the future of its telephony product.

"As the holidays approach and our calendars become full, it can be hard to find time to give back to the causes you care about most. Tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday-an annual one-day event that encourages people to make donations to their favorite charities-we're making it easier for you to connect with a worthy cause through the first-ever "Hangout-a-thon" on Google+," per an official Google Blog.

The Hangout-a-thon event will start on December 3, at 9 AM ET on the "Giving Tuesday" Google+ page. Popular charitable organizations such as Charity Water, UNICEF, Save the Children, the Malala Fund, The Trevor Project, and more, will be asking donors to make donations.

People can donate directly to the charitable organizations or support them via the "Shoppable Hangouts" app, which will enable viewers to buy "goods for good" during the event.

Google also says that donors will get a chance to understand the work of these non-profit organizations and also connect directly with people these organizations are helping. Some famous celebrities such as Jennifer Garner, Chris Daughtry and Sophia Bush will also join the event.

The event will last for 12 hours and will include 24 charities and brands; however, Google has not released a full list of participating non-profit organizations.

This is the first time that charities have used Google+ Hangout for a charitable event. This is also the first telethon of its kind, which will be available on a social platform that is available worldwide.
