We're only four episodes in, and already Gotham is turning up the heat — way up.

Fox has released four new clips from "Viper," the episode of Gotham airing Monday, October 20, 2014, and each one zeroes-in on a specific major character. The first sets the stage, catching up with Detectives Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock as they come across a crime scene that defies logic.

Over at Wayne Manor, young Bruce continues his rapid self-education in detective work, much to Alfred's concern.

Meanwhile, on the flip side, the villains are awfully busy, slowly putting the pieces into place for their grand schemes. Oswald Cobblepot, aka Penguin, tries to cozy up with Sal Maroni but it doesn't go so well.

And Carmine Falcone calls a "family" meeting with his various crime boss underlings — which also doesn't go very well. It seems Falcone's entire organization is still stinging from Maroni's recent victory.

"Viper" finds Gordon and Bullock on the trail of a new street drug (likely the cause of the logic-defying crime scene), until Gordon is taken hostage by Sal Maroni, who's searching for the connection between Gordon and Oswald Cobblepot. Here's a trailer.

Stay tuned, because after "Viper," Victor Zsasz is just two weeks away.
