OnePlus, the company behind OnePlus smartphones, has started rolling out the latest beta for its latest flagship, the OnePlus 3. Based mainly on Android Marshmallow, the latest firmware is called the OxygenOS 3.5.5 Open Beta, and it's available to download now.

For users of the OnePlus 3, the update will be available over-the-air if you have the previous build OxygenOS Open Beta 3.5.4 installed.

According to the official changelog OnePlus published on its own forums site, the latest beta contains a small number but a useful series of improvements to OnePlus 3.

For one, there's now a OnePlus FileDash feature, which is basically a Wi-Fi transfer system for easier and faster file transfers. There's also the ability to switch launcher layouts and a Google Maps integration for geotagging messages.

The phone's user interface for calls has also been cosmetically refreshed, and personalized ringtones for specific users have also been added as a feature. OnePlus also added the ability to see the entire call history of a specific contact, which proves useful for bringing up age-old call logs that get buried under a messy and convoluted call log history.

The update also brings the first introduction of the OnePlus community app alongside performance improvements, bug fixes and improved stability.

The OnePlus line of smartphones have remained relatively small scale but managing to garner a significant cult following and loyal user base for its sleek, high-powered devices at a fair price point. The latest of which is the OnePlus 3, the company's current flagship — though that might not be for long — that rocks a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED Full HD display with 401 ppi.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip with an Adreno 530 chip for graphics. It comes with a standard 64 GB of internal storage and a pretty sizable RAM at 6 GB, which, while seems a tad bit more than what most users need, is still pretty indicative that the phone can run even the worst memory-hogging apps out there.

On the rear panel is a 16-megapixel camera that can record 4K video at 30 fps and an 8-megapixel front shooter that can record 1080p video.

The OxygenOS 3.5.5 Open Beta 6 is now available to download directly from OnePlus' downloads page. Speaking of firmware updates, it's been rumored that the OnePlus 3 may be inching closer to a full-fledged Android Nougat update, hinted significantly by a recent Geekbench test.

You can purchase the OnePlus 3 for $399 directly from OnePlus' online store.
