Samsung has a new rewards program to incentivize people to use Samsung Pay, aiming to offer additional perks beyond just convenience.

While the vast majority of mobile payment systems aim just to make things easier and more convenient, without actually offering incentives to keep users engaged, Samsung wants to take things to the next level and encourage users to shop more by raising the stakes. The more you shop with Samsung Pay, the better the perks.

The new Samsung Pay rewards program, aptly named Samsung Rewards, offers various perks whenever users pay for stuff using the service online or at retail stores in the United States.

"As we enter the New Year, and look to the future of mobile payments, we want to build on the success of Samsung Pay by giving new users even more reasons to try it out — not to mention, thank our existing customers for using a service they already love," says Samsung. "That's why we're excited to offer Samsung Pay users a first-of-its-kind rewards program for a mobile payments platform: Samsung Rewards."

Samsung Rewards - How It Works

The rewards program is pretty straightforward and easy to grasp, functioning in a way similar to regular banking cards that give users points whenever they make a purchase. Buying more stuff with Samsung Pay earns more points, which can then be used toward bonuses such as other Samsung products, gift cards for select stores and a Visa prepaid card.

At the same time, Samsung Rewards also enables customers to enter giveaways and it also sports loyalty tiers, design to reward frequent shoppers by granting them multipliers to increase their number of points.

Not Replacing Credit Cards Offers

Samsung points out that its new Samsung Pay rewards come on top of whatever credit cards already offer, not replacing those deals. Moreover, considering that many debit cards don't have reward points perks, Samsung Rewards adds bonuses that users would otherwise not have access to unless they use credit.

Samsung Rewards Launch And Availability

Samsung Rewards will launch in the United States sometime this week, albeit the company doesn't mention a specific day. The program should cover everything from S Health to the Samsung website and everything in between in the coming months, and Samsung is offering double the regular points to all users who sign up by the end of the year.

The company makes no mention of when or if it will extend the availability of Samsung Rewards beyond the United States, but a global launch would not be surprising.

Limited-Time Bonus Offers

Lastly, Samsung says that its rewards program will team up with various retailers and small businesses to offer seasonal opportunities for users to earn extra points. For instance, as previously mentioned, all users who sign up for Samsung Rewards in November or December will get twice as many points for all purchases made during these months.

With the lucrative holiday shopping season right around the corner, Samsung Pay may get more action by attracting more users with Samsung Rewards.

Coincidentally, Samsung's announcement comes on the same day that Apple announced that users can now donate to nonprofits via Apple Pay. While it's clearly not the same thing, it goes to show that both companies are making efforts to improve their mobile payment services and offer a better experience overall.
