LG G5 customers on T-Mobile have started receiving Android 7.0 Nougat software update over-the-air (OTA).

Google released Android 7.0 Nougat in August this year and Nexus devices were the first to get the update. Currently, only a handful of devices outside the Nexus and Pixel family have received the software update.

On LG's part, the company announced its first flagship smartphone of this year — the LG G5 — during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February and the mobile phone hit the shelves in April this year. The handset came running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and now it has started receiving Google's latest operating system.

According to reports, the OTA update brings Android 7.0 Nougat as well as security updates to the LG G5. The download file weighs 1.27 GB.

"T-Mobile is pleased to provide a new, free update for your Android smartphone. This update includes Android 7.0 Nougat OS and Android Security update among other improvements," says T-Mobile.

Android 7.0 Nougat Features

The latest mobile OS from Google brings along a number of new features and enhancement to Android devices. The update will introduce a new split-screen view for easy accessibility of two apps simultaneously.

"Now you can switch between apps with a double tap, and run two apps side by side. So go ahead and watch a movie while texting, or read a recipe with your timer open," says Android.

The Doze power saving mode, which was first introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, has been enhanced. Doze enables users to save battery even when they are on the move. Android 7.0 Nougat devices will go into low power usage even when a user is carrying it in a pocket or purse.

Notifications and settings have also been improved to bring a seamless experience to users.

Other Carriers That Have Rolled Out Android 7.0 Nougat To LG G5

T-Mobile is not the first carrier to release Android 7.0 Nougat to LG G5. According to a previous Tech Times report, Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to roll out the latest mobile OS to LG G5 in November.

It remains to be seen how swiftly other carriers follow suit.

When To Expect The Update And What To Do When The Update Is Received?

The software update is expected to roll out in phases. Customers should get a notification and they have to follow the procedure as required by the update.

LG G5 owners should ensure that their device has full battery charge and connected to a strong Wi-Fi network before starting the installation process.
