Hollywood Actress Angelina Jolie may join the ranks of celebrities turned politicians, as she revealed in an interview that she would be open to a career in politics if she thought it would make her more effective in her advocates.

Jolie has been a UN Ambassador since 2001 and has traveled all over the world to speak on human rights and other humanitarian causes. Recently, she wrote a piece in the Washington Post calling for an end to genocide in Darfur, and was given an honorary Dame title by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to fight sexual violence.

As a vocal humanitarian and political activist, Jolie would be a potential candidate that people may be able to consider if she decided to run for office.

"When you work as a humanitarian, you are conscious that politics have to be considered. Because if you really want to make an extreme change, then you have a responsibility," she told Vanity Fair.

Famous actors entering the world of politics are not unheard of. Here are other politicians who first made their marks on the screen before they entered office.
