MacBook Air Gets Discounted On Best Buy, Next-Gen Version Coming In March?

Close

The MacBook Air is a well-loved product from Apple and while its steep pricing may be a deterrent for many consumers, the laptop can now be had for a discount.

There is some good news for potential buyers as Best Buy is now listing the MacBook Air (128 GB and 256 GB storage options) at a discounted price. The website states that the product is on sale but does not mention till when this offer will last.

Best Buy Offer

The regular price of the 128 GB MacBook Air is $999.99 but the offer provides a $100 discount to consumers. The 256 GB variant normally costs $1199.99, but the deal brings its price down to $1099.99. The Apple online store, however, lists the devices with its original price.

Those looking to benefit from this offer from Best Buy will not only get the MacBook Air at a discounted rate; they will also benefit from a free six-month subscription to Kaspersky Internet Security. However, to receive the free software, the buyer would need to have an active account in Best Buy.

This offer from the retailer may not be as great as the President's Day sale one, where the device went for $750, but it is a good deal nevertheless.

There can be no doubt that the MacBook Air was a premium device back when it was launched. However, it has not been refreshed since 2015. This has resulted in some outdated specs which may discourage some potential buyers.

The 13.3-inch MacBook Air comes with a 1.6 GHz Dual Core i5 processor. This processor is not one, but two generations behind the current one. The I/O port of the device is Thunderbolt 2, which although fast, is still outdated.

However, the relatively large display of 13.3 inch and 8 GB of RAM may entice users to opt for the device. The MacBook Air also provides very good battery backup which ensures that the device runs longer without needing a recharge.

Next-Gen MacBook Air Coming Soon?

Apple did not refresh the MacBook Air in 2016 and it is speculated that the company could release the next-gen version at its rumored March event. Apple is expected to reveal some of its newer devices next month per new reports such as the iPad Pro 2.

The discount on the MacBook Air from Best Buy discount suggests that the retailer may be looking to clear out older inventory, possibly in preparation of the next-gen version's arrival.

Rumors have been rife that the next-gen MacBook Air will have a trackpad, which will allow users to deploy the Apple Pencil. Moreover, Apple will reportedly discard the 11-inch model in favor of a 15-inch one. The MacBook Air 2017 may also have a USB Type-C port, which will enable a slimmer design for the device.

Not only is the next-gen model expected to boast a slimmer and lighter form factor, but also offer more RAM, better battery support and enhanced cooling components.
