Anne Hathaway is very interested in becoming Catwoman again in the new DC Cinematic Universe. The actress took on the role on Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, and to many critics, she did an excellent job. However, fans did not feel the same way about her performance.
Hathaway revealed her intentions during a recent interview with IGN. It is clear she would return to the role if given the chance, but not unless Nolan is involved as the director.
"I would be totally up for doing it if Chris [Nolan] was involved," Hathaway revealed. "For me, the thing that made doing that part particularly fun was that she existed in his Gotham. Without him I don't think it would be the same thing."
From what we have come to understand, Nolan has no interest in returning as a director for a DC film, so Anne Hathaway's interest in returning might never happen. Nolan's Batman universe was down to earth as there were no other heroes around and no one with super powers.
This new world in the making is Zack Snyder's universe, something entirely different where the impossible is possible. We're not sure if she'd be interested in jumping in such a universe, or maybe the reason she's sticking to Nolan is because Zack Snyder has yet to prove himself as capable.
Furthermore, the actress also showed interest in starring in a Catwoman standalone film or just a cameo in the new universe.
"When the focus is squarely on her, I don't know if it works as well," Hathaway mentioned. "I think she's got an amazing backstory and it would be great to see her get her own film. But I don't know - she is someone who... mystery serves her well so I don't know what a whole film would do. But who knows?"
While we would love to see Catwoman in the new DC Cinematic Universe, we doubt the character is capable of carrying on her back the weight of her own film. The character is good, but not exciting enough to succeed in this way.
For a film like this to work, it would require someone else by her side, another female perhaps?
If Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder do come up with the idea of bringing Catwoman to the big screen again, we doubt they would hold words with Anne Hathaway. Her time has come and gone; we need a new face since everything else is brand new.
