Even as consumers gear up for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus's debut, a new Samsung phone, possibly the 2017 version of the Galaxy J5, has been spotted on GFXBench.

The smartphone, with the model number SM-J530, appeared on the benchmarking website, suggesting its launch is round the corner. The listing also revealed some of the supposed specs of the new phone. These include the screen size, the RAM, internal storage, and chipset to name a few.

The Galaxy J5 (2017) received Wi-Fi certification in February and rumors were rife that the handset could debut at the MWC 2017. However, the device was not unveiled at the trade show. Interestingly, the model number of the variant, which received the green signal from the WFA was SM-J530FM/DS.

The smartphone was also spotted on Geekbench last week, fueling speculations that its unveiling was around the corner.

Galaxy J5 (2017): Rumored Specs

The GFXBench listing reveals that the Galaxy J5 (2017) may tout a 4.8-inch display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. The device could also feature a quad-core Exynos 7870 SoC, clocked at 1.5 GHz and an ARM Mali-T830 GPU.

The 2017 edition of the Galaxy J5 may also offer 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Whether it has a microSD slot has not been revealed yet.

The smartphone will apparently have 12-megapixel or 13-megapixel cameras on both the front and rear. Both of them will have a 4K snapshot resolution and FHD video recording capability. The primary camera will have auto focus, face detection, and touch focus capability but will lack HDR.

The listing also reveals that the purported device will come with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

Other essentials which have been reported include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, gyroscope, and accelerometer.

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) Specs

The Galaxy J5 (2016) came preloaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a bigger 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screen by comparison, with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels.

The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. It offers support for Adreno 306 GPU. The smartphone also has 16 GB of onboard storage, which is expandable up to 256 GB via a microSD card.

It is not known when Samsung would release its Galaxy J5 (2017). The smartphone could be accompanied by the Galaxy J7 (2017) and the Galaxy J3 (2017).

The Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) found favor with consumers. It remains to be seen if the entry-level Galaxy J5 (2017) will be able to replicate the same.
