The T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is finally getting a long-awaited treat, as Android 7.0 Nougat should start rolling out any day now.

Although Android O (likely "Oreo") is just around the corner, official stats still peg Nougat as powering less than 5 percent of all Android devices currently in circulation. Android fragmentation is hardly any news anymore, but at least the Nougat update is gradually making its way to more devices.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 Nougat Update

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 owners on T-Mobile, however, are in luck as the Android 7.0 Nougat update is headed their way, slated to roll out early this week.

T-Mobile delivered the news through its "Gadget Guy" Des, who took to Twitter over the weekend to confirm the impending release.

While the update is all set to roll out over-the-air momentarily, those who don't want to wait for the OTA release can apparently get it already. The update is reportedly available for download now via Samsung Smart Switch.

Breathing New Life Into The Galaxy Note 5

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 hit the scene back in 2015 so it's pretty old by now, but it's still the latest flagship available in the Galaxy Note series. Samsung skipped the "6" in the name and followed the Note 5 with the Galaxy Note 7 last year, but things didn't go so well.

The Galaxy Note 7 launched as a sleek and powerful flagship packed with a slew of great specs and features, but also a major issue that brought its demise. Shortly after the device hit the market, reports started piling up that the Galaxy Note 7 was overheating and catching fire.

Samsung recalled the explosive Galaxy Note 7 and tweaked the hardware to address the exploding battery issues, then released the device again only to face the same problems. The "safe" Galaxy Note 7 released after the first recall was still not safe and was faced with more reports of exploding batteries. Samsung had no choice but to recall the phablet a second time and disable all remaining units to avoid further problems.

The company is expected to release a Galaxy Note 8 later this year, but for now the Galaxy Note 5 from 2015 is the latest device in the Note series to still be available on the market.

Galaxy Note 7 Nougat Update: What To Expect

Although it's a bit old, the Galaxy Note 5 still packs a punch and can deliver a solid performance. The Android 7.0 Nougat update will breathe some new life into the old device, adding new features and improving the overall experience.

The update should significantly boost the Galaxy Note 5's appeal and performance. Android 7.0 Nougat brings a slew of neat features to the table, including an enhanced user interface, a better notification system, Instant Apps, power saving with Doze on the Go, seamless updates, lower system requirements, Google Allo and Duo, and much more.

The T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 5 should start getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update any day now, but a specific date for the rollout is not available at this point. If you have a Note 5 on T-Mobile's network, keep an eye on notifications and you should soon see the update prompt.
