Andy Rubin's Essential Phone is essentially here and it's ready to take things to the next level, rocking high-end specs and a killer design.

If Andy Rubin's name sounds familiar, it's because he's the co-creator of the popular Android mobile operating system that powers billions of devices worldwide. Rubin left Google a few years back, but he hasn't been slacking. The father of Android has been busy working on a new project called Essential Products and the mighty, new Essential Phone is among the first fruits of that labor.

Essential Phone: Next-Level Bezel-Less Design

We've seen a number of bezel-less smartphones hitting the scene recently, but the Essential Phone seems to turn the trend into a work of art, boasting what might just be the most impressive bezel-less display yet.

The smartphone does have a thin bezel at the bottom, but otherwise the display extends all the way to the top and neatly wraps around the front camera for more effect.

The Essential Phone is made of titanium and ceramic material and should be tough enough to handle the occasional tumble with no problems.

"There's a reason titanium is used to build rockets and replace bones. Unlike aluminum, which is what most phones are made of, titanium doesn't scratch, dent, or bend. That's why you won't find an area for phone cases on our site," notes the description on the Essential website.

"We believe titanium is the perfect material to create one of the most essential things in our lives — one we all sometimes drop."

The Essential Phone also joins the no-headphone-jack trend, but it will pack a headphone adaptor in the box to make things easier.

Essential Phone Specs

When it comes to specifications, the Essential Phone features a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,312 pixels and a 19:10 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the handset packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4 GB of RAM, along with 128 GB of native storage space.

The Essential Phone further boasts a dual rear camera setup comprising of a 13-megapixel color lens and a secondary monochrome lens, similar to the Huawei P9, Mate 9 and P10. On the front, meanwhile, the smartphone sports an 8-megapixel selfie cam with 4K video recording capabilities.

Other specs and features include a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3,040 mAh battery with fast-charging, a USB Type-C port, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board out of the box.

Essential Phone Modular Accessories

The Essential Phone also supports modular accessories, which can easily attach through the magnetic pins on the back of the smartphone. Only two modules are official for now: a dock for charging the device, and a 360-degree camera.

Essential Phone Price And Availability

Andy Rubin's Essential Phone will initially launch in the United States at a $699 price point, but the exact release date is unknown at this point. For now, interested customers can reserve the smartphone through the official Essential website. The smartphone will come in four color options: Black Moon, Stellar Grey, Pure White, and Ocean Depths.
