In the past few years, television has gone through some major changes. Story-driven dramas are more popular now than they ever have been because of their newfound variety and consistent level of excellence. Now, there are shows like Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones - shows like these are the best examples of what television can bring to viewers.

That's why it's so painful when the big twists get spoiled. It's one of the worst feelings in the world - to anticipate a huge event like nothing else, then have it ruined for absolutely no reason. In the age of the internet, spoilers are everywhere, and avoiding them can be extremely tough.

It's even tougher when the network behind the show is the one dishing out the spoilers. Something major went down during the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, but few people expected AMC to be the ones who would ruin the episode.

WARNING: The rest of this article contains spoilers...obviously.

During The Walking Dead mid-season finale, Beth finally met her end. It was a huge moment for the show, and will obviously have huge ramifications for the story moving forward.

Unfortunately, for any fans following the show's official Facebook page, AMC decided to go and post this picture early:

...which clearly ruins the ending of the episode. Fans were understandably outraged: one of the biggest moments on TV this season was ruined for no reason other than a simple marketing push.

Of course, AMC would later issue an apology on the same Facebook page where the spoiler was originally posted:

It's a shame that so many people's nights were ruined, but it seems that the majority of fans were able to make it through the episode without knowing what was to come. Perhaps, in retrospect, knowing what would happen may have been the less emotionally crippling route to take...

The Walking Dead is set to return on Feb. 8, 2015.
