PlayStation buffs have gone a tad berserk while hankering for the elusive PS4 20th Anniversary Edition, which was released over the weekend. Such is the craze that the limited edition of the gaming console sold for a whopping $20,100 on eBay!

The limited edition console commemorates the original PlayStation, released in 1994. The console also packs in the overhauled Dual Shock controllers in gray.

"The 'PlayStation®4 20th Anniversary Edition' is a very special model that is reminiscent of the original PlayStation, which has inspired every other PlayStation platform launched in the past two decades. This limited edition PS4 offers a great sense of nostalgia to long-time PlayStation fans, while also providing a fresh experience to those who never picked up the original console," revealed Andrew House, Group CEO Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., at the time of the launch.

The PS4 20th Anniversary Edition has only 12,300 pieces available globally and is priced at $499 in the U.S. The console sold out after pre-orders began via the Sony online store on Saturday, Dec. 6, in the U.S.

"We appreciate your interest, but we will have no more inventory. Apologies for the inconvenience," notes the Sony Store page.

However, online marketplace eBay saw a rush after listings of the device appeared on the auction site.

Archurops, an eBay seller, was able to sell the PS4 20th Anniversary Edition for $20,100 after amassing 34 bids. Another seller "technologysupps" was able to garner $15,100 for the limited edition of the console after 106 bids.

Gamers in Japan can get lucky as they have the option of buying the PS4 20th Anniversary Edition via a lottery. If you've been lucky enough to lay your hands on the PS4 20th Anniversary Edition hold on till it ships out on Dec. 21.

For those still eyeing the device, eBay currently has plenty of listings for the limited edition gaming console that are well over the four-figure mark. You can check out all the listings here and try your luck as bidding for most of the listings is still open.
