To make up for the recent hacking scandal involving the credit and debit card information of approximately 40 million Target customers, Target CEO has announced that the company will be providing free credit monitoring for its customers.

The recent data breach involving Target IT infrastructure left millions of Target customers fuming with rage. The incident happened sometime between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 and angry Target customers toook to social media sites and blogs to express their discontent. To placate the customers, Target is offering its credit monitoring services free of charge. In addition to this, the company will also be providing its customers with a 10 percent discount on all Target purchases made in-store in the U.S.

While Target has taken the necessary measures to secure their customers data from future attacks, the results of the company's efforts remain to be seen in the near future. "The issue has been identified and eliminated," says Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel. "We recognize this has been confusing and disruptive during an already busy holiday season. Our guests' trust is our top priority at Target and we are committed to making this right," Steinhafel adds.

The company has also reiterated that while many people shopped at Target stores during the time frame of the data breach, not all credit card and debit card-toting customers will be affected. Steinhafel is also reiterating that the affected customers will not be held liable for any credit and debit card fraud that may ensue due to the data breach.

Incensed customers have also been complaining about difficulties in reaching Target customer support lines for clarifications about the incident. However, Steinhafel has stated that the difficulties were caused by an "unprecedented call volume," which may have overloaded the company's capacities. In addition to this, the Target CEO has also apologized for the communication problems. Steinhafel has also announced that Target will be ramping up their customer service capabilities to address the new needs.

Steinhafel said Target customers will be able to enjoy their 10 percent discount in Target stores this weekend.
