The Evil Within 2, a game that successfully combined the survival horror genre with open world elements, has received a first person mode through the latest free update.

The first person mode for The Evil Within 2 was actually discovered hidden within the PC version of the game shortly after it was released. Update 1.04, however, makes the mode an official feature, not just for the PC but also for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

'The Evil Within 2' First Person Mode Officially Rolls Out

In an official blog post, publisher Bethesda referred to the discovery of the first person mode for The Evil Within 2 PC version. The feature, which was there because there were some parts of the game's story that required it, was highly requested by gamers to be officially made available to the rest of The Evil Within 2.

Developer Tango Gameworks has apparently listened to the clamor, as the first person mode has been rolled out in update 1.04 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The unofficial first person mode spotted for the game's PC version required players to input console commands, but that is no longer required for the official launch of the feature. For The Evil Within 2 players on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, activating first person mode is as simple as heading into the Options menu, looking for first person mode under the General tab, and toggling the virtual switch.

According to Shinsaku Ohara, the game's producer, after players had a positive reaction to unlocking first person mode on the PC, the development team decided to add it to all platforms. According to Ohara, it wasn't easy because The Evil Within 2 was not meant to be played in first person. However, the work was worth it, as it allows players to see the enemies and environments of the game up close and in full detail.

Why Play 'The Evil Within 2' In First Person Mode?

Third person mode gives players a better view of what surrounds them. However, for more realism and more scares in the case of The Evil Within 2, first person mode is the better choice. Experiencing the game through the eyes of Sebastian, the main character, will provide players with a more memorable look at all the horrors of The Evil Within 2.

The addition of first person mode to The Evil Within 2 appears similar to Capcom's decision to include support for the PlayStation VR in Resident Evil 7. The latest entry in the franchise that started the whole survival horror genre looked and played amazing in virtual reality, and a first person mode for The Evil Within 2 will likely look to give the same kind of experience.
