Momentum for The Walking Dead spin-off (known only as 'Cobalt') is quickly picking up steam. For a long time, the project was nothing but a codename and ideas, but now that casting has begun, the show is finally starting to take form. Of course, anything associated with AMC's hit show is going to garner a lot of attention, but it's only recently that the project has felt like something real.

Recently, it was announced that actor Cliff Curtis had been selected as the show's male lead, though the show's female lead was still unknown. It may have taken a little extra time, but AMC has announced that Kim Dickens will play the lead female role in the upcoming series.

According to Deadline, Dickens has been selected to play a guidance counselor opposite Curtis. The two are in a relationship, though the specifics are still unknown - it has been confirmed that Curtis' character (a teacher) has been divorced, but the details of the relationship between him and Dickens' character are under wraps for now.

Dickens herself is no stranger to the screen: the actress has played roles in Gone Girl, Deadwood and Sons of Anarchy among others.

Other information concerning the show - when it's set to film, when fans can expect to see it air - has yet to be confirmed. The show's setting, a Los Angeles high-school, and the fact that it will take place during the same zombie apocalypse as the original show have both been nailed down, but everything else (including the title) is still up in the air.

Considering how early the show is in production, it's safe to assume that it'll be some time before fans get to watch an episode. Thankfully, more additions to the cast mean that fans are one step closer to The Walking Dead's first spin-off. Maybe it won't be too long before viewers get to see what a West Coast zombie apocalypse is like.
