Sony revealed the release date of Days Gone, the highly anticipated open-world zombie shooter, while also rolling out a new trailer that gave another look at a world filled with the undead.

Days Gone, which was first announced at E3 2016, grabbed everybody's attention in E3 2017 with a trailer that featured a menacing zombie bear. Fittingly, the new Days Gone trailer which announced its release date contained even more zombie animals.

'Days Gone' Release Date Revealed

In March, Sony confirmed that Days Gone, which was expected to be released this year, will be pushed back to 2019. There was no official explanation on the Days Gone delay, with speculation including the need for more time by Bend Studio and the decision to give way to The Last of Us Part II, which is another zombie-filled PS4 exclusive game.

Three months later, Sony rolled out a Days Gone release date trailer, revealing that the PlayStation 4 exclusive will be launched on Feb. 22, 2019.

In addition to the Days Gone PS4 release date, the trailer also contained more terrifying scenes of the Pacific Northwest after a zombie apocalypse. Deacon St. John, the protagonist of the story, is shown dealing with not just zombies, which the game calls "freakers," but also with other human survivors. The trailer also reveals the Rest in Peace faction, or R.I.P. These survivors are not zombies, but they dress up like them and kill everyone not in their group. If they encounter zombies, R.I.P. members will not kill them.

The trailer also shows zombie wolves and zombie ravens, adding to the zombie bear to portray a truly infected landscape where seemingly nothing and nowhere are safe.

The Road To E3 2018

Sony has five reveals planned before E3 2018 kicks off on June 12. The Days Gone release date is the second out of five announcements, following the unveiling of a new Tetris-inspired game, Tetris Effect.

The third announcement will be for a new PlayStation 4 game, followed by a new PlayStation VR game, and lastly, the addition of PSVR support for an "eagerly anticipated game."

Sony has also launched its Days of Play sale, which will run until June 18 in celebration of E3 2018. The highlights of the sale are the launch of a limited edition blue PlayStation 4, the reduction of the PlayStation 4 Pro price to $349.99, and PS4 games discounts for titles such as God of War, Gran Turismo Sport, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
