The long-awaited, much-anticipated sequel for the critically acclaimed game Life Is Strange, has finally been given an official release date.

Like the first game, Life Is Strange 2 will again be parsed into five episodes, with the first installment premiering this Sept. 27, according to the game's official Twitter account.

A teaser trailer shows the announcement being stitched across a decrepit backpack, but it appears there won't be any more clues as to the significance of the image until Dontnod Entertainment reveals "further information" this August.

There are currently no details as to what the storylines are going to be this time, but if it's anything like the first game, then have your tissues at the ready.

Life Is Strange 2: Story, Characters, Gameplay

Gamespot reports that preorders for Life Is Strange 2 will go live next week, timed alongside the release of The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, a free game set in the same universe featuring Chris, a 10-year-old character that will appear in Life Is Strange 2. While it's a self-contained story, Dontnod Entertainment says it also serves as "narrative experience demo" for the sequel, and some choices will be carried over. Here's how Eurogamer feels about it:

"It feels odd to be in the Life is Strange universe playing as a 10 -year-old boy instead of a teenage girl, but it's also odd how well it works, tonally as well as gameplay-wise."

Life Is Strange

Life Is Strange was one of the most popular games of 2015, garnering 3 million downloads throughout its five-episode first season and getting commissioned into a TV show, although that's yet to surface. Despite a number of flaws — particularly its writing — most critics were enamoured by its depiction of teenage anguish and anxiety, and the fact that each choice one makes in the game will affect the story in significant ways. Here's Polygon's review:

"I'll never forget the heartbreaking turn of events halfway through the season that dramatically altered the rest of the game and my relationship to its characters, all of whom I'd come to care about over the course of a few hours. It was something that I could have prevented — me! Not Max, but me! — but I failed to make the right moves, and I'm still devastated by it."

Life Is Strange is now available on PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, iOS, macOS, and Linux.
