Counter-Strike: Global Offensive features the return of the iconic K&M submachine gun, better known as MP5 to the game's aficionados.

In an update released by Valve, MP5-SD is part of the arsenal of the game for the first time through an official patch that is now available for all players. The MP5 has been a fixture of every other Counter-Strike game since 2004 before Valve replaced it with the MP7 in the CS: GO.

The MP5-SD was part of its arsenal in the beta version but did not make the cut upon launch. Since then, CS: GO players have been requesting Valve to bring back the versatile and affordable MP5-SD to its arsenal.

The CS: GO official Twitter account initially gave a preview of the MP5-SD with a video of the submachine gun in-game.

"Oh THAT'S where we put that...," reads the caption.

Afterward, the MP5-SD was made available to the game.

Valve Announces Return of MP5-SD

In its announcement, Valve said the all-new MP5-SD is available for testing via Offline and in Official Casual and Deathmatch servers. However, it remains to be seen if it will be expanded to other modes and servers.

The MP5-SD could be equipped in the MP7 loadout slot. The MP5-SD comes with an integrated silencer and features higher movement speed at the cost of some damage and accuracy on the move.

"Often imitated but never equaled, the iconic MP5 is perhaps the most versatile and popular SMG in the world," the Counter-Strike blog stated.

The MP5-SD, the design of which is based on the real-world Heckler & Koch MP5-N, is the weapon of choice for Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source players with its low cost, high rate of fire, and low recoil.

The MP5-SD costs $1,500 in-game and $300 per kill in a casual game. While it is not as powerful as the MP7, the MP5-SD is quieter and has a faster speed.
