Hackers may have played Scrooge on Christmas by waging a DDoS attack on PlayStation Network (PSN) and Xbox Live, but developer Rockstar Games is spreading some holiday cheer by revealing that its "GTA Online Festive Surprise Christmas Day" inventory gifts deadline has been extended.

Grand Theft Auto fans, who missed out on the bonus owing to the outage, need not fret. Rockstar Games has announced that it is extending the inventory gifts time limit. However, it is not known for how long the freebies will be available as the developer did not divulge the time window for the same.

"Due to issues with PSN & XBL connectivity, we're extending the GTA Online Festive Surprise Christmas Day inventory gifts for the time being," revealed Rockstar Support on Twitter.

Last week, we reported that Rockstar Games was gearing up to celebrate the festive season with holiday surprises in plentiful. The developer launched the 1.19 update aka the "Festive Surprise" for GTA Online, giving players a plethora of weapons, new attire, snowy weather, proximity mines to stuff their stockings with.

Gingerbread masks and Christmas sweaters were just some of the cool goodies in store for the holiday-themed giveaway. Players could even indulge in snowball fights!

Players who logged into GTA Online on Christmas day would have the gifts automatically added to their inventory. However, owing to the outage, for which "Lizard Squad" has claimed responsibility, several players missed out. Nevertheless, Rockstar is playing Santa and has extended the window so that GTA fans will not miss out on the bonuses.

While Xbox Live is back in action, Sony is still trying to fix the PlayStation Network. While services for PS3 are operational, PS4 users are still encountering issues and are not able to log in.

The Japanese company has revealed that its team is working on the issue, but cannot give a timeline.

"No ETA available yet, but our Team is working to fix it as soon as possible, thank you for your patience," notifies the Ask PlayStation Twitter account.
