Huawei is trolling Apple in its iPhone XS launch by giving away free power banks to people who have lined up outside of an Apple Store to wait overnight for the latest iPhone.

The iPhone XS will likely shake up the smartphone industry, so Android smartphone manufacturers will not pass up any chance that they can get to try to sway customers to their side. Even if they do not work, the marketing gimmicks are amusing, at the very least.

Huawei Trolls Apple With Marketing Stunts

Outside Singapore's Apple Store, customers started lining up the night before the iPhone XS launch to become among the first people in the country to own Apple's new iPhone.

According to Huawei, it simply wanted to "offer respite from the weather and gruelling wait" when representatives dropped by the Apple Store line near midnight to give away over 200 power banks.

The massive 10,000 mAh Huawei Supercharge power banks came with a note on the packaging that further tried to zing Apple.

"Here's a power bank. You'll need it. Courtesy of Huawei," the tagline of the power bank's packaging said in a marketing gimmick that Huawei confirmed to CNET.

The message was clear. Huawei was pointing out the 2,658 mAh battery of the iPhone XS, compared to the 4,000 mAh battery of its latest flagship smartphone, the P20 Pro.

The marketing stunts did not end there, though. In London, a Huawei van drove near an Apple Store to give away fruit juice and offer charging stations with "no traces of Apple."

iPhone XS Battery: Smaller Than iPhone X

Filings made to a regulator in China recently revealed that the iPhone XS battery will only have a capacity of 2,658 mAh. This is even smaller than the 2,716 mAh battery of its predecessor, the iPhone X.

The iPhone XS is still expected to have a longer battery life compared to the iPhone X, with an extra 30 minutes of usage time. However, the 4,000 mAh battery of the Huawei P20 Pro and the 4,200 mAh battery of the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 are just too large to ignore.

Meanwhile, the iPhone XS Max is said to have a 3,174 mAh battery, while the iPhone XR will contain a 2,942 mAh battery.

Huawei's Deceptive Marketing

Huawei does need to focus its efforts on marketing initiatives such as this one, which places the brand as a disruptive force in the smartphone industry where it already ranks second behind Samsung and ahead of Apple.

However, Huawei was previously caught cheating in the P20 Pro benchmark test and engaging in false advertising for the Nova 3. Reports like these cause Huawei to take a hit in its public image.
