So many fans have been begging The Pokémon Company to make a modern Pokémon Snap game, and now their prayers are answered — kind of.

Niantic just unveiled the Pokémon GO Snapshot challenge, which will take advantage of the Go Snapshot feature earlier this year.

The photo mode, which allows players to take pictures with their favorite Pokémon, is a huge part of the global challenge, and will offer players to "put those photography skills to the test."

Pokémon GO Snapshot Challenge

The Pokémon GO Snapshot challenge consists of three unique "adventures," each focused on creating a specific type of photo. Niantic will pick a grand-prize winner and two runners-up for each adventure, and these participants, who will be selected based on "originality, creativity, and visual fun," will nab some exciting prizes.

Adventure Challenges

The first adventure is called the Buddy Challenge, which requires trainers to take photos that show the connection between them and their Buddy Pokémon. Anyone may interpret this however they please, but Niantic cites examples ranging from simply hanging out with one's favorite creature, to taking them on outdoor escapades. The Buddy Challenge will take place from April 15 to 24. Players are required to share their three best photos on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtags #GOsnapshot and #BuddyChallenge.

The second adventure is called the Habitat Challenge, which, as on Pokémon Snap, requires trainers to take pictures of Pokémon in their natural habitat. This one runs from April 29 to May 8, and again, players should share their photos on social media using the hashtags #GOsnapshot and #HabitatChallenge.

The last adventure will require players to really get creative. In the Go Create Challenge, which runs from May 13 to May 22, players will have to show just "how innovative" they can get with the GO Snapshot feature. Likewise, players should upload their creations to their social media accounts using #GOsnapshot and #GoCreateChallenge.

Prizes

Runners-up will have their photos featured at a PokéStop for at least three months. Same goes for the grand-prize winners, in addition to paid travel and tickets to a 2019 Pokémon GO Fest of the player's choosing.

While it's certainly not the modern iteration of Pokémon Snap fans have been waiting for, the Pokémon GO Snapshot challenge serves as a fun interim activity until Pokémon Sword and Shield comes out on the Switch later this year. Have fun taking photos, trainers.
