Pebble has something special to announce at the 2014 International CES (CES 2014) in Las Vegas next week. In a teaser posted on the Pebble website, the smartwatch maker hinted of a special announcement its CEO Eric Migicovsky will make at the CES on January 6.

"We've been fast and furious with news and announcements to close out 2013, and we're here to let Pebblers know that our year-end reveals were just a sample of the big things in store. Help us kick off CES, The Consumer Electronics Show, in style," the post reads.

The company didn't give any hint on what to expect but the consensus is that Pebble will introduce some sort of second generation hardware. This makes sense since Pebble has already announced its upcoming app store in December last year. Some also guess Pebble will unveil a color screen because the blog post said something about founder Eric Migicovsky being "color correct". Still, others predict an upgraded version of the original Pebble watch and even a new partnership. Consumers look forward to a price reduction as well.

Pebble has come a long way from its humble beginning as a Kickstarter project way back in 2012 but as more established and deep pocketed companies start to offer the same product that it offers, and given Apple's anticipated entry in the smartwatch market, the Pebble team needs to step up its game, so there's no wonder about hyping up its spot at the CES 2014. Given that 2014 is also poised to be the year of smartwatches, Pebble's efforts might just pay off.

Smartwatch fans who can't make it to Las Vegas next week to personally watch Migicovsky at the CES 2014, can still watch the announcement online since Pebble plans to livestream the announcement. "Join us Monday, 6 January at 11 AM Pacific (2 PM Eastern) for an announcement by CEO Eric Migicovsky, streaming on getpebble.com. Pebblers who were part of our CES announcement last year can tell you: you won't want to miss the news (Eric will be color-correct this year, promise)," Pebble said in its blog post.
