It goes without saying that Marvel's comic book continuity is a bit more complicated than its cinematic universe. In the movies, the Avengers are always the same people: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, etc. In the comics, however, the roster seems to be changing constantly: sometimes Spider-Man shows up, other times Wolverine is a member and it seems like Captain America is only a part-time Avenger at this point. It's not quite as consistent as its big screen counterpart, but the Avengers comic book certainly take the cake when it comes to character variety.

Case in point: Marvel has just revealed Uncanny Avengers #1, yet another reshuffling of Earths' Mightiest Heroes. It's a bold move considering the only 'recognizable' Avenger on the roster is The Vision, while everyone else is a newcomer. It's a pretty huge shake-up following the events of AXIS, and the changes are immediately noticeable:

The Avengers Unity Division (or the Uncanny Avengers) were originally created following the Avengers vs. X-Men event, but following Steve Rodger's rapid aging due to the super soldier serum wearing off, Sam Wilson (a.k.a. the Falcon) has taken over as Captain America. Now, the team will head to Counter-Earth to face off against one of the Avenger's oldest foes...

Of course, it wouldn't be much of a story without conflict, but Marvel's not exactly being specific about who the Uncanny Avengers will be facing off against. Here's a brief synopsis of the new debut issue:

"The tragedy at the end of Avengers & X-Men: AXIS has left the Uncanny Avengers vulnerable. The Avengers Unity Squad as we know it has been decimated - and someone is taking advantage of it! Biding his time, one of the Avengers oldest foes has returned. Why now? And what does it have to do with the reborn Avengers Unity Squad?

What is Counter-Earth? What secrets does it hold? An unlikely alliance of Avengers & X-Men will form, seeking answers. Only what they find will in all likelihood destroy the lives of two of its own members. To brave Counter-Earth, the new Uncanny Avengers - Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Vision, Captain America, Rogue, Brother Voodoo and a now-heroic Sabretooth must stand together, or perish alone."

Considering that Avengers: Age of Ultron is coming out next year, many would expect Marvel's comic books to reflect its films. While there's bound to be some tie-ins down the road, it doesn't seem like Marvel is abandoning its new team anytime soon, either.

For the time being, it looks like there are some new Avengers in town.

Uncanny Avengers #1 will be available digitally later this month.
