Sony has announced its free PlayStation Plus games lineup for June 2019.

The selection this time around includes Gearbox Software's Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and a 16-bit blast from the past that is Sega's Sonic Mania.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

Originally released back in March 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is composed of Borderlands 2 from 2012 and 2K Australia's Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

In addition, the bundle includes every DLC for both games and enhanced local multiplayer to boot. It's also worth mentioning that PlayStation 4 Pro owners will get to play the two titles in 4K.

The timing of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection being part of Sony's free PS Plus games is just perfect. Thanks to that, fans can catch up on the story of the shooter or maybe relive the awesome moments to be had before Borderlands 3 rolls out on Sept. 13.

On that note, the next title in the franchise will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the PC via the Epic Games Store where it'll be an exclusive for six months.

Sonic Mania

Launched back in August 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, Sonic Mania is a welcome addition to June 2019's PS Plus lineup for fans of the blue blur.

For those who don't know, the game was made in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It puts the player in the shoes of Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, featuring a side-scrolling gameplay with 12 levels, redesigned stages, and even new zones.

Free PlayStation Plus Games

As Sony announced in a blog post, PS Plus subscribers can get Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania for free starting on June 4.

That said, the free games for May 2019 are still up for grabs until June 3, and the selection includes Overcooked and What Remains of Edith Finch.
