Sony might be bringing back the Xperia Compact.

The smartphone maker posted a teaser online, and according to it, it's going to take the wraps off an Xperia that can fit "in the palm of your hand" at IFA 2019.

New Xperia Compact 2019

Sony posted the said teaser on Instagram. It's a short clip that doesn't really reveal much, but its message is pretty much unmistakable: There's going to be a new Xperia with a slim form factor.

The video starts off with hands counting down to five, followed by the line "Xperia in the palm of your hand." It then put "IFA 2019 Berlin 13:00 CET" on display, but it didn't mention a date — in the clip, that is. In the caption, the company made it clear that it's going to take the stage on Sept. 5.

Xperia 2 And A Smaller Sibling?

Without an official confirmation, what Sony is hinting at here is still up in the air.

Rumors say that it could unwrap the Xperia 2 at the event. Now that smartphone is expected to sport a 6.1-inch display, a lot smaller than the 6.5-inch screen on its predecessor the Xperia 1. On top of that, the colors used in the Instagram video align with the color options shown in recently leaked renders of the Xperia 2, which are dark blue and purple. In other words, it's believed that the Xperia "in the palm of your hand" is the Xperia 2.

On the other hand (pun intended), the company could unveil the Xperia 2 alongside a smaller version of it.

Sony's compact phones have proven to be popular among users, but the last one it launched was the Xperia XZ2 Compact. The Xperia XZ3 from IFA 2018 and the Xperia 1 from the 2019 Mobile World Congress didn't have a compact version. Put simply, the teaser spells good news for fans of the company's smaller devices.
