Google is making Google One more compelling.

Put simply, the subscription storage service is getting automatic phone backups that'll let Android users keep just about any important data safe and sound in the cloud.

Google One's Improved Phone Backup

In a blog post, Google explains that it's building on the standard Android backup, which covers things like text messages, contacts, and app data. Now Google One can also back up multimedia messages or MMS, or in other words, it can back up any photo, video, or audio file in apps such as Android Messages or RCS-based messengers under certain conditions.

Users will probably have their pictures backed up via Google Photos, but with Google One, original quality images will also be backed up automatically. Videos are part of the deal as well, just to be clear.

When The Phone Breaks, The Data Won't Fail

As Google highlights in its blog post, users won't have too much of a headache when their phones meet an untimely demise because Google One will have backed up pretty much everything important. Of course, this also applies when performing a factory reset or upgrading to a newer model.

All of this data can be managed on the Google One app, which is available on the Play Store. Upon opening the app, there should be a notice that prompts users to "Back up your device's media with your extra storage," under which are "Multimedia messages," "Photos & videos" (i.e., Google Photos), and "Device data."

Google One starts at $1.99 a month for 100 GB of storage and goes all the way up to $299.99 a month for 30 TB of storage. Other options include 200 GB of storage for $2.99 a month, 2 TB for $9.99 a month, 10 TB for $99.99 a month, and 20 TB for $199.99 a month. Google also lets subscribers share it with up to five family members.
