Some Android users will finally be able to use features such as Gmail and Google Play on dark mode. The feature is not yet rolled out to everyone, but some Android 10 users can already enjoy it.

Dark Theme On Google Apps

A week after the Android 10 launched on Pixel phones, its users can enjoy dark mode on Google apps such as Gmail, Play Store, Calendar, and Google Photos. With the dark theme on, the white background will become black, and the black font will become white, thereby making the features easier on the eyes and on the devices’ batteries.

Google first teased dark-themed Google apps on the Android website when Android 10 launched on Sept. 3. Google Pixel users with Android 10 can access the dark theme by downloading the latest version of the Google app, for example Gmail, then go to the general settings where they can find the "theme” option. There, they can choose between light and dark theme, which will then be displayed on the app accordingly.

This feature is evidently already available to some users, and a number of Reddit users were among the first to note the changes in the app after updating. Some, however, still did not have the dark theme even after the update and may have to wait a little bit longer for the change to reach their device.

As for other non-Pixel Android users, Android 10 will roll out to their devices later this year.

Android 10 Highlights

Apart from the dark theme, there are also other features that Android users might get excited about on Android 10. It will also feature a Sound Amplifier that will let users adjust the sound settings on their phones. For instance, a user can amplify a friend’s voice and filter background noise. Once headphones are plugged in, they can hear the audio based on their preferences.

Android 10 will also have a Live Caption feature that will allow users to quickly caption videos, podcasts, or even audio messages even without cellphone data or Wi-Fi, as well as a Smart Reply feature that goes beyond just suggesting possible replies to messages.

Android 10 also supports 5G and foldable phones, but perhaps most important of all the new features is that it supports more controlled privacy settings that will allow users to decide how and when their data is being shared.
