Samsung may be changing up its smartphone branding in the near future.

If the rumors turn out to be true, then the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note could become things of the past.

Only One Galaxy

Citing a "solid source," well-known tipster Evan Blass or @evleaks said (via Android Police) that Samsung is discussing plans for its future Galaxy branding and that it might combine the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines into one package. How it'll turn out is still up in the air, but according to him, it could be something along the lines of a "Galaxy One" instead of a Galaxy S11.

Blass notes that it's possible that the South Korean brand would merge the two lines into a "single first-half handset" that's basically a Galaxy S phone with an S Pen, which is the distinctive feature of the Galaxy Note. He also adds that if the Galaxy Fold meets expectations of the company in market sales and functionality, the foldable smartphone could be touted as the "second-half flagship," which is what the Galaxy Note is at the moment.

Going by its release history, Samsung unveils new Galaxy S smartphones sometime during the first half of the year. It then follows them up with a higher-end Galaxy Note in the latter half of the year.

Galaxy S vs. Galaxy Note

The differences between the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note have been getting blurred since the past couple of releases, with the S Pen being the primary distinction.

For instance, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 both boast a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, a resolution of 2,960 x 1,440, HDR10, and an IP68 rating, to name a few. Aside from the stylus, they only differ from one another in screen size, RAM, cameras, and battery sizes. Compare the Galaxy Note 9 with the Galaxy S9 Plus and they're practically the same thing, minus, again, the S Pen.

At that, it's safe to say that it was only a matter of time before Samsung went ahead and merged the two smartphone lines.
