Facebook's Group Stories did not apparently appeal to users of the platform so the social media company decided to pull the plug from it in September.

Instagram Testing Group Story

It appears though that Facebook did not completely abandon the feature as it appears to be bringing it to Instagram, the photo and video sharing platform that Facebook bought for $1 billion in 2012.

Technology blogger Jane Manchun Wong found the test code for the Group Story feature on Instagram. In a tweet, Wong said that the platform is testing Group Story.

The feature is expected to work similar to Facebook. It allows users to share stories to a specific group.

Group stories can be useful for users who have a group of friends attending the same event. The feature can allow users to aggregate stories into one place. For those with groups dedicated to a particular topic, they can use the Group Story instead of sharing content as a public story.

Facebook's Group Stories

Facebook introduced Group Stories in 2018 as a way for members and admins to engage more with their communities, but the social media company decided to take it down on Sept. 26, just about nine months after its debut.

"On September 26th, we will be sunsetting group stories. At that point, no new group stories can be posted and existing group stories will be deleted," Facebook said in a statement. "Members and admins can continue to use stories from their personal profile or make a post in the group to share moments from their lives."

Feature May Do Better On Instagram

The feature, however, could do better on Instagram, especially that the platform already has Story stickers that directly link to group chats.

The fate of the Group Stories feature, however, is yet to be seen. Instagram may be testing the feature but it is no guarantee that it will make the cut, particularly since Group Stories did not do well on Facebook.
