Fitbit has come a long way since its initial plain fitness tracker days. The Fitbit Charge 3 now has a few smart features like notification mirroring, while the Versa 2 has a larger suite of apps available. With all these new customizable smart features, Fitbit owners might want to do a little bit of fiddling to make the most out of their Fitbit. We've got a list of X things that every Fitbit user should know to make the most out of their Fitbits.

Six Tips to Get Started with Fitbit

These are some tips useful to owners of every type of Fitbit, from Inspire, Charge, Versa, to Ionic.

  1. Customize your watch face: Fitbit trackers have lots of customizable watch faces that help you make your Fitbit truly yours. You might also want to check for third-party apps that let you choose from an even wider variety of watch faces.
  2. Set your activity goals: Don't forget to set your activity goal. You can set the typical 10,000 daily step goal, more if you find yourself particularly active. You're also going to find hourly activity goals, reminding you to be active throughout the day. You'll be reminded 10 minutes before the end of the hour to meet 250 steps, and if you miss it, you can't make up for it the next hour.
  3. Start workouts in your Fitbit: Before you start your workouts, it's best to start the workout/exercise with your Fitbit. This will make the tracking more accurate, and you'll be able to see the metrics of your workout. Charge 3 can store up to 7 exercises that you can customize, while the Versa 2 can store up to 20.
  4. Calibrate your stride length: Don't forget to calibrate your stride length properly so that your Fitbit can properly tell how many miles you've walked given your number of steps.
  5. Find your Quick Settings: Make things easier with quick settings, letting you quickly turn on Do Not Disturb or Sleep Mode, or adjust your screen brightness and more. Press and hold the button for Charge 3 users, or press and hold the back button for Versa users.
  6. Food and Weight Goals: Fitbit Food Plan can be found on the Fitbit app and lets you set your calorie goals and weight goals. You can track your food there, or integrate it with MyFitnessPal and Lose It seamlessly if you'd rather find your Fitbit data on other apps instead.

Four More Tips for Fitbit Versa Users

Here are some tips specific to the more capable Versa tracker, especially for users of the Versa 2.

  1. Set your Always-on display: The Always-on display is great to see your metrics at a glance quickly, but if you find that it's draining your battery life too much, you might want to consider turning it off.
  2. Add some music: The Versa 2 lets you load music via Fitbit's windows app so you can listen to it via Bluetooth earphones later on. Music transfer via WiFi can only be done while the Versa 2 is placed on its charger, while slower transfer via Bluetooth will be the norm without.
  3. Use Amazon Alexa: One of the Versa 2's new features is the introduction of Amazon Alexa. Just hold the button on the watch to be able to talk to Alexa, but the replies are going to come back in text form due to the lack of speakers. Alexa will also be able to help with replies to texts.
  4. Install Third-Party Apps: Fitbit has a growing number of apps, although not as powerful or as versatile as Apple Watch apps, we find that one of the best apps is "Full Battery" that lets you check the Fitbit's battery status on your phone, get email notifications, and even battery metrics for your battery health.
