1. Fill out an Application

The first step in becoming a cruise ship photographer is to find a cruise line you want to work for and fill out an application. While the ideal age range is from 18 to 32, you can still be eligible if over the age limit. The goal is to hire physically fit and healthy people.

You need to know the fundamentals of photography. You also need to be able to take well-composed photos that are sellable.

Finally, even if you are in the age range, you need to be in good health. Working on a cruise ship is a stressful job, so managers need to know that you're up to the task.

2. Prepare for the Interview

If your application and resume shine, then you'll get called for an interview. It's typically a two-day hiring session. These sessions happen about once a year in the country where the cruise line is hiring.

It's a good idea to bring your camera, though you probably won't use it. Dress professionally and wear nice but comfortable shoes.

3. Learn the Seafaring Basics

Upon completing all of your safety and seafaring requirements, you'll receive a Seaman's Book. For many countries, this book is required.

You'll also need to get a full medical exam. If you need medication, be sure to get enough for your entire contract and some extra. You should also bring a copy of your prescriptions with you, just in case.

4. Learn the Ropes of the Job

Your final step is to learn the finer points of the job. Where, when, and how this training is done will vary from one company to the next.

One thing is always the same: once completed, you're ready to start your new career as a cruise ship photographer. Before you know it, you'll have the chance to discover the natural beauty of the Caribbean on a cruise to St. Thomas. Just remember you're there to work and not on vacation-although it will feel like one!
