Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for only a few days, but Nintendo has already rolled out its first update, patch 1.1.1, and it's a small and quick patch to download as it was specifically made to fix one problem: the duplicating item exploit.

An Exploit is Discovered
TechTimes have previously reported a huge exploit that allowed Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to clone an item.
A YouTube content creator explained the exploit, GameXplain. It seems like players have been using the exploit to get richer in the game fast enough.
Basically, a player has to put an item on a surface and have another person help them out and roll the item endlessly while the player picks it up from the surface. Due to a bug, the player will be able to grab the item, but the spinning item will be left on the surface, therefore creating a clone.

However, it seemed like Nintendo caught up with what was happening and decided to fix the patch and had it rolled out last night, which was the reason why the New Horizons servers were down for a little while, as per VG247.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons had a simple patch note, saying that they have "Fixed a serious bug affecting game balance."
What that means is after players update their games, they will no longer be able to perform the exploit, which could easily allow them to have multiple copies of one item and sell them to pay off loans rather quickly.
For those who want to rebel a little longer, it is possible to boot your game, which will allow you to play the previous version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons before the patch came out.
You can also ignore and decline to install the update when booting the game.
Nevertheless, Nintendo has already made their move, and it is still unknown what they will do to players who are caught still exploiting the cheat, so like before, boot the game and use the trick at your own risk.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reach New Heights
In related news, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is on its way to becoming one of the best-selling games of all time in Japan, according to Famitsu, who released the sales figure.
As noted by The Verge, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has officially sold 1.88 million physical copies for the first three days of hitting the market, and that is only the figures for the physical copies, meaning the figures for the digital copies are yet to be released and that the figure could be much higher.
Nintendo Switch Sales Soar
The game's sales figure is by far the biggest Nintendo Switch sale and the biggest of all the Animal Crossing titles before New Horizons.
Besides the game, sales for Nintendo Switch have also reached new heights, with more than 392,000 consoles sold in Japan alone last week, which is the highest figure for seven days for the console.
This is despite Nintendo's warning that the coronavirus pandemic could affect hardware productions as well as cause delays for the shipments.
