Leaking valves?

The modern-day version, dubbed SN3 (short for Serial No. 3), was scheduled to go through a chain of tests culminating in short, "hopping" flights. But something went incorrect in an early test performed yesterday (April 2).

"We will see what data review says in the morning, but this may have been a test configuration mistake," SpaceX CEO Elon Musk wrote on Twitter.

In a follow-up tweet, Musk said some valves leaked at cryo temp. He added they'll be fixing it and will retest soon.

The cryogenic pressure check was intended to test SN3's capability to withstand the high pressure of very cold fuel. Musk said in another tweet that SN3 had exceeded an ambient temperature test the night time before the failed cryogenic pressure check.

SpaceX's third failure

The video taken near the SpaceX's Starship hub in Boca Chica, Texas, appears to reveal SN3 collapse under strain.

SN3 is the third failed SpaceX Starship prototype, all through testing. The company's first Starship Mk1 was destroyed all through a failed pressure check-in in November 2019. Its successor, the Starship SN1 (or Serial Number 1), turned into also failed in a pressure check on Feb. 28 this year. A next prototype referred to as Starship SN2 efficaciously surpassed the identical test on Mar. 8. Each generation of Starship has protected tweaks and enhancements over its predecessor.

The Starship SN3's failed test approach that the company will presumably pass directly to SN4 because it continues to kind out layout issues. Musk had previously stated he desired to peer that car attain as high as 12 miles (20 kilometers) above Earth's surface.

SpaceX has been pushing difficult on Starship improvement in current months despite the check failures. The spacecraft (and a planned megabooster called Super Heavy) shape the middle of SpaceX's plan for deep-area missions to the moon, in addition to for Mars colonization.

During the latest Falcon 9 rocket release carrying 60 Starlink net satellites last month, Space.com said SpaceX searched for welders and other professionals to build new Starships. Musk additionally held a career day in February on the Boca Chica website to interview new workers.

Earlier this week, SpaceX unveiled a users' manual for Starship describing one of a kind payloads and missions, crewed and uncrewed, it can fly for customers.

SpaceX has already signed one customer for a Starship flight. Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has booked a trip across the moon at the spacecraft, with a target launch date of 2023.
