Oculus Quest Will be Controller-Free Soon

According to a report by TechRadar, the VR headset's hand-tracking feature is exiting beta in a few more days, specifically on May 28, when Oculus Quest owners can finally enjoy three third-party games and a couple of animated VR films that will support this feature.

In addition, developers could start submitting projects that support the hand-tracking feature beginning on the date specified, meaning we might get more controller-free games in the coming months.

The games that will feature this new tech includes ElixirWaltz of Wizard, which are potion-mixing games as well as puzzle game The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets, according to The Verge.

Meanwhile, the movies you can watch completely controller free are The Line and Gloomy Eyes.

The Future of VR Gaming

The news first came when the Facebook-owned company announced that they would be working on a hand-tracking feature last year during their annual Oculus Connect conference.

Since then, Oculus Quest owners and anyone interested in getting one has been waiting for it.

As of writing, Quest is the only VR headset that will be featuring hand-tracking technology, but rumors are circulating that Oculus Rift S may also get the feature down the road.

However, it's nothing but speculations as of now, so take the news with a pinch of salt.

Hand-tracking is already a huge step further for the future of VR gaming, and it is highly likely that other VR headsets, including those from Sony's PlayStation and Valve, might think of adopting the tech, especially if Oculus' plan works well.

Nevertheless, expect that their hand-tracking feature won't be perfect yet as the developers will most likely continue working on the tech until it is flawless and can provide a more immersive experience for gamers.

Of course, the controllers are still the headset's main controller, but the hand-tracking feature is a bonus and gives the players more versatility with how they can enjoy their games.

More Oculus News

Besides this new technology, the company has also expanded the list of cables that work with the Oculus Link, which is a feature that allows you to connect the VR headset to a computer and play Rift games with Quest.

Oculus is also rolling out an update of the Guardian boundary system this week.

The update will add a new feature known as Playscape Scan that will automatically detect obstacles. Plus, there will also be a future tweak that will allow users to change the boundary's color to purple, yellow, or blue from its default teal color.

Meanwhile, the first anniversary of the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S is nearing, according to VRFocus, and users can expect content sales in the coming days as part of the celebration.

Unfortunately, the company hasn't revealed what games would be discounted or until when the sale will last, but since it will start on Thursday, May 21, we don't have to wait for long.
