Elon Musk and Grime's baby was on the headlines following his birth not only because he was SpaceX and Tesla and the singer's first baby but also because of the couple's eccentric choice in his name.

By now, people already know his name, but probably can't pronounce it even after Musk himself taught us how it's supposed to sound.

Nevertheless, it seems like X Æ A-12 won't be the baby's final name.

Changing Their Son's Name

According to a report by CNet, Grimes confirmed on her Instagram post that the couple has decided to change their baby's name.

One of her followers asked her what the baby's new name is and whether they have changed it because of California laws surrounding it.

When their baby's name was first announced, many of their followers shared the two cents regarding it, with many saying that they might have to change it because it may not be accepted in California because of certain laws.

Although the singer did reveal their baby's new name from X Æ A-12 to X Æ A-Xii, she did not disclose the reason behind the change, but many still think it has something to do with the law in the state of California.

Nevertheless, she seemed to be incredibly happy with the minor tweak and said that it "looks better, tbh."

Why X Æ A-Xii Might Not be Accepted

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, a California-based family-law attorney explained why the baby's name might not be accepted.

According to Atty. David Glass, parents, based in California, could only use the 26 characters that exist in the English alphabet.

"Thus, you can't have numbers, Roman numerals, accents, umlauts, or other symbols or emojis. Although an apostrophe, for a name like 'O'Connor,' is acceptable," he explained.

Furthermore, Glass said that if Elon Musk and Grimes were to fill out their son's birth certificate on the hospital, it would be rejected, and they would be asked to submit again, making appropriate changes based on the law.

Nevertheless, the attorney did say that the couple has a chance to appeal the rejection of their son's birth certificate, although it's likely going to be rejected yet again because apparently, California "has been struggling with using symbols."

With that, even though the couple did change their son's name to X Æ A-Xii, the Roman numeral might not be accepted, plus the Æ might also cause it to be rejected.

Nevertheless, the couple seems adamant about keeping it.

How to Pronounce His Name?

As with the pronunciation, it seems like it did not change, which means it should still remain as "Ex Ash A Twelve," or it could be "Ex Ash A Eye Eye," either way, it's definitely not closer to being as simple as any other name in the US.

For those who missed out on the baby's name's explanation, Grimes posted on her Twitter account to explain where the name came from, and apparently, Musk's contribution is the A-12, which is named after the couple's favorite aircraft.

As of now, all we can do is wait to see whether the couple would change their baby's name once again, or the state of California could finally learn how to accept symbols.
