Artist Riccardo Zangelmi created this lifelike Ducati Panigale V4 R made from 15,000 LEGO Technic bricks.

Using LEGO to create a Ducati

According to DesignBoom, it took artist Riccardo Zangelmi around 400 hours to create the piece entirely by hand using 15,000 LEGO Technic bricks--enough to fill a swimming pool.

The LEGO Ducati Panigale V4 R is also Zangelmi's debut using Technic bricks without any glue or using CAD to render the design. Nevertheless, the similarity is definitely uncanny when one puts the model and the real deal close to each other.

The team from LEGO Italia unveiled the 1:1 model alongside its twin, the LEGO Ducati Panigale V4 R set that the company recently launched. The exhibit was held at The Circuit in Modena, Italy, on June 19 and showed the life-sized creation and the set side by side.

'Finishing as part of a team'

"I am very happy because I never imagined I'd have the chance to unveil a bike like this," said Andrea Dovizioso, a Ducati Team MotoGP rider. "Almost everyone at some point in their lives has played with LEGO bricks at least once, but seeing up close a replica of the Panigale V4 is something incredible and at a very high level."

The rider congratulated the LEGO artist behind the masterpiece for "building such a true-to-life and detailed version" of the Ducati Panigale V4R.She also said that she believes both adults and children will love the life-sized model.

Of course, the model was only built partially with LEGO Technic bricks, but many of the components are the real deal, including the wheels and the fuel tank.

When Zangelmi was asked, he said that creating the incredible model is the "most exciting professional challenge" that he has faced, and it pushed him beyond his limits, and he is delighted not only with the finished product but also with "crossing the finish line as part of a team.

LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R Set

Meanwhile, the miniature version of the model is also now available on the Danish toymaker's website. The model is around a foot long, six inches high, and three inches wide and the only set in LEGO Technic history to include a gearbox so builders can simulate different driving techniques and speed.

It also includes a few other features, namely the steering and the suspension that gives the toy a realistic movement, along with the front and the rear disc brakes.

It should also have an exhaust, a stand, a dashboard, and a windshield, making it look like an exact replica of the real motorcycle. Most of all, it's color red reminiscent of the classic Ducati. The model, both the mini and the life-sized version, comes with the partnership between LEGO and Ducati.

The LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R set is now available on LEGO's official website for $59.99.
